Leading Fleet Operators Selected for National Fatigue Trial to Set a New Benchmark in Australia
📅 April 21, 2026 4 min read
Following strong interest from across the transport and logistics sector, a group of leading operators has been selected to participate in the national trial, reflecting both the scale of industry engagement and a shared commitment to advancing safety outcomes through innovation.
FleetPREDICT is one of 12 projects selected through the HVSI program, supported by a $4.2 million investment aimed at improving safety outcomes across Australia’s heavy vehicle industry. The trial represents a targeted, industry-led approach to applying funding where it can deliver practical, real-world impact for operators, drivers, and the broader community.
Developed by WHG Technologies in partnership with SAT - Sleep Advice Technologies, FleetPREDICT combines biometric data and predictive analytics, paired with a Garmin smartwatch, to identify fatigue risks 1 to 8 minutes before micro sleep events occur, providing drivers and operators valuable time to respond.
Conducted in freight and logistics environments, the trial brings together operators, drivers, and wearable technology to address a key industry safety challenge, generating real-world insights to support safer operations and broader adoption of, and confidence in, wearable fatigue technology.
“The national trial marks a significant step forward in uniting industry leadership with advanced wearable technology to address fatigue risk at scale,” said Dylan Hartley, Director of Operations at WHG Technologies.
“The calibre of operators participating reflects a clear industry commitment to driving meaningful safety outcomes. By combining real-world operational insight with predictive technology, this trial is positioned to set a new benchmark for fatigue management in Australia.”
Linfox
As one of Australia’s largest logistics providers, Linfox brings national scale, mature safety frameworks and deep operational experience to the trial. With a dedicated in-house fatigue risk lead, Linfox will provide valuable insight into how FleetPREDICT is assessed within safety systems and large-scale logistics operations.
Wettenhalls
Wettenhalls is a long-standing, multi-site transport operator known for its strong focus on compliance and operational discipline. Having celebrated its 100th year of operation in 2025, they will bring a century of industry experience, well-developed processes and a practical understanding of how safety innovation can be applied in real-world transport settings.
FBT Transwest
Recognised as a progressive fleet in the bulk liquid and tanker transport segment, FBT Transwest is known for early adoption of safety and telematics innovation. Their participation will contribute important insight from a specialised freight environment where operational complexity and risk management are especially critical. FBT Transwest’s experience will help examine how FleetPREDICT supports safer outcomes in strict and safety-sensitive operations.
Team Transport & Logistics
Team Transport is a growing operator with a strong regional presence and practical fleet operations expertise. Their involvement will add an important perspective to the trial, particularly in how wearable fatigue technology is implemented in a way that is workable, relevant and scalable across everyday freight operations. Their contribution will help keep the project closely aligned with operational reality.
These operators represent a diverse cross-section of fleet operations, bringing extensive experience, operational scale, and a proactive approach to safety. Their involvement highlights the industry’s willingness to invest time, resources, and expertise into initiatives that support both driver wellbeing and broader road safety outcomes.
“Participating in this trial offers a fantastic chance to provide real feedback on technology that truly makes a difference in managing fatigue and enhancing safety,” said Cameron Dunn, Managing Director of FBT Transwest.
“Giving drivers the platform to share their experiences is essential, as they are on the frontline and uniquely positioned to help shape the industry.
“Their input will help ensure that solutions are practical and effective, ultimately making the work environment safer for everyone,” Dunn said.
By combining innovations in wearable technology, operator experience and real-world freight operations, the FleetPREDICT trial will contribute to a stronger evidence base for fatigue management and support the continued evolution of safety practices across Australia’s heavy vehicle industry.
